Securing the cellar door

Ian McGovern, owner of boutique Masterton winery Loopline Vineyard runs a demanding one-man operation with the cellar door open seven days a week.

His job is made even more difficult by the fact the cellar door is closer to the road than his house, and from the house he can't see or hear if someone has arrived at the tasting room.

Such a major security issue makes it difficult to get on with running the daily activities at the vineyard, or even going home for lunch! Ian’s commitment to providing excellent customer service and having peace of mind about the safety of his business led him to his security solution - an Infra Alert gate wireless alarm system from Agtronic Alerts.

The system transmits an invisible infra-red beam that detects cars and people entering the vineyard. It sends a signal to a receiver located at the house, which alerts Ian to a new customer’s arrival.

The introduction of the Infra Alert instantly transformed the way Loopline Vinyard operates on a daily basis by enabling Ian to relax in the knowledge that security is being taken care of.

"While security hasn't been an issue in the past, it is important that I know when people are arriving at the vineyard and that the cellar door is safe."

Ian also credits the system for making his job infinitely easier.

"It's great to be able to go home for meals or to grab something I have forgotten, without having to worry that someone is at the cellar."

As soon as the alarm sounds, Ian leaves what he is doing and goes down to the cellar, where he is able to meet and greet customers just as they are stepping out of the car.

"From a customer services perspective, it is important for me to be there when customers arrive. I would hate for them to walk away feeling ignored or that there was no-one around to serve them."

Ian is currently looking at expanding his Infra Alert system with a pager pack so he can work confidently out in the vines as well.

"The system paid for itself immediately."
