The first step in installing Zappabarz is to drive a nail into the gatepost one metre above ground on the centreline between the gateposts. The nail should be tilted upwards.

Hang one of the Zappabarz from this nail by the hole provided in the angle iron, with the 90 degree angle towards the post. This should point the bar at the opposite gatepost at the height of a portable electric fence.

Remove the loose 8mm nut from the bolt which hangs through the loose chain. Take care not to lose the nut (a spare nut is provided in case you do !)

Remove the short length of tube which was retained by the nut and pass the free end of the bolt through a link on the opposite part of the same chain so as to encircle the gatepost. Replace the tube (which is painted red in case it is dropped in the grass !)

If necessary, change to another chain link so that with no chain slack and minimum sag not more than 20mm of thread protudes from the tube.

Replace the 8mm nut and tighten, making sure that you have not selected a link too close to the end of the chain. Re-tighten after use.

The Zappabarz unit can be slightly off vertical so as to direct the bar at the opposite gatepost. While tightening the chain, the bar might lose alignment with the opposite post. This is corrected by loosening the chain and over-correcting before tightening again.

The small rigging screw with lock nut can be adjusted so that the main bar is horizontal.

Zappabarz should overlap when at rest.

Electrify the Zappabarz by connecting the clips to the existing fenceline or portable fence unit.

Zappabarz can be lifted to walk under using the black insulated handle.

Zappabarz are opened for stock or car passage by pushing it open while avoiding contact with the red and white electrified bar, and then flipping the tensioned spring upward and over the curved steel and pivot bolt. All metal parts are not electrified and are safe to handle.

To close again, simply pull closed.
